“BE A PINEAPPLE.

STAND TALL. WEAR A CROWN & BE SWEET ON THE INSIDE.”

For years this has been the quote on the cover of my phone. Before I even became a coach, I would look at this quote and it immediately would give me strength,  reminding me to align with myself and show up authentically wherever I go.

But what does it really mean to be a pineapple? Can we actually learn something from a delicious fruit?

The truth is there is so much we can learn from a pineapple. Lets begin with her (yes a pineapple is a her in my mind) physical appearance.

A pineapple has a hard shell, something I would equate with ‘thick skin,” a pineapple wouldn’t be brought down by another fruit, it would remain unharmed as all the other fruits would take their best hit. Even more so, a pineapple would stand tall, confident, and proud in the face of a challenge, crown intact.

Inside, a pineapple is sweet and comforting. No matter how many bites you take, the pineapple remains sweet and delicious and ‘shows up’ as the authentically sweet version of herself – no matter what is going on outside of her.

This is something that is hard to do, especially as a new mom. How can you show up kind and authentically genuine when you are having a hard time? Well, you can start by learning from a pineapple and realigning with your authentic self. Ask yourself how do I want to show up no matter what? How can I align with this version of me? What would my life look like if I always showed up this way?

Now, back to the pineapple. Pineapples are very patient but also very committed. Unlike other fruits which take about 3 and a half months to grow, growing a pineapple takes nearly two years! The pineapple doesn’t just quit growing when the winter gets too hard, or the summer too hot. She perseveres and focuses on her development, in spite of life’s challenges.

You just became a mom. Things are still new, don’t throw in the towel just because it’s challenging. Be patient and persevere. Like a pineapple, you too are going through a journey of growth and blossom. Treat yourself kindly, and be patient because results will not be seen over night.

Pineapples also rely on community. Actually, one pineapple originates from as many as 200 tiny flowers (unlike other fruit which require just one single flower). The beautiful, sweet and poise pineapple doesn’t do it alone. She gets stronger and sweeter because of the support system helping her grow.

As a new mom, there is no better time to create your community of people that will lift you higher, and encourage you to grow and develop. Be mindful of those you choose to have in your life, and make sure that you are surrounded by people who spark happy thoughts in your brain.

I truly believe that YOU Mama, are a pineapple.
